When my father-in-law arrived in New York over 30 years ago, all he had was a young family to support, $5 in his pocket and a dream. A concert pianist by profession, he did the only thing he knew how in order to make ends meet and put food on the table. He started piano repair and tuning. That being said, the calendar does fill up quickly, especially during certain times of the year (like the holidays). It is always a good idea to schedule your regular tuning in advance. However, if you have an emergency, give us a call. We will do our best to help.
It is best practice to tune your instrument every 6 months. For instruments that are heavily used, such as practice pianos in studios and musical schools, it is recommended to tune more frequently, about once a month.
Yes! Don’t despair just yet. Sometimes all that is required for a poorly maintained instrument is a double or triple tuning. The first tuning (or two) is to correct the piano’s pitch (in case it sounds too low or too high after being exposed to heat, humidity or air conditioning). The final tuning is the actual tuning. However it’s also possible that some repairs may be necessary. Give us a call, and we’ll let you know for sure.
